Dice in Dice – I can not tell you how popular this center was with my kids. I had to give them all a “Dice in Dice” from Learning Resources and the blacklines at home, per their begging. For this center you need the “Dice in Dice” from Learning Resources. I got mine at www. All the kids do is roll one “dice” and add and record the number sentence. They can also subtract the smaller number from the larger number as well. Make a Train Race – You will need unifix cubes, a precut piece of yarn about a yard and a die.

Math Center Ideas Welcome! A couple of years ago, I attended an inservice on learning centers in the classroom. Since then, learning centers have become a huge part of my teaching. Now, my students participate in self-directed, self-motivating review, practice, and enrichment on a regular basis.

Around the Clock Here is a center game to reinforce clock numeral placement. For each game board, glue a construction paper clock to a colored background. Label each of several chips in sets of 12 chips with numerals 1 – In turn have each player roll a 12 sided die, then cover that number on her clock with the correctly labeled chip. If a player rolls a numeral that has already been covered with a chip, she must pass the die to the next player.

I’ll have each station name and a picture of the station on a card in the pocketchart. Then each student will have their name listed on a 3×5 index card. I’ll put their name card beside the station that I want them to attend. How the students move through the stations will be determined on an individual basis. At the end of the day, each student’s name will be moved to the next station.

Below are the Work Station signs that I use.

Why immigrants make dangerous journey to US CNN Chain link fences, mattresses on the floor and families queuing to be processed — and oftentimes separated. These are the photos of the processing detention center in McAllen, Texas, that the Customs and Border Protection agency wants you to see. More than 1, immigrants — including children — were being held at McAllen when reporters were allowed in Sunday.

Dozens of protesters stood outside the center as reporters and democratic lawmakers arrived to learn more about the facility where the Department of Homeland Security is processing and detaining immigrants accused of illegally crossing the border. The lawmakers came to south Texas, they say, to learn more about the agency’s processing of undocumented immigrants entering the United States, including a Trump administration policy to refer all people who cross the border illegally for criminal prosecution on top of immigration proceedings.

The students look through and find the ones that they know how to do or the ones that they want to try. Almost all of the activities were made using the File Folder teacher resource books. A few were made using graphics software, and some were made using Ellison die-cuts. We have a central mailbox in which each student has their own mail slot.

The desk is stocked with scrap paper, stamps, and cards. The mailbox is made from a wine box that I covered with contac paper and set on its side. The dividers that are built into the box to keep the bottles from breaking make perfect mail slots for us. Each slot is labeled with a student’s name. Right now we have the 3 Billy Goats Gruff up there.

Saturday, September 12, Beginning CENTERS in K This post could alternatively be titled “what works for me” because lets face it, there are a million ways to do centers, and what works one year with one class, might be completely awful another year with another class. Here is what currently works in my classroom. I introduce only one new center and for that matter, one new activity at each center each week.

Before I ever let the students take over ownership I model, model, model, and we talk about what you should and shouldn’t do at the center.

December 13, Share this Shutterstock Don’t want to pay for Word? Here are four good free options. Many free shareware versions are almost just as good as their paid-for competitors. While it looks a lot like the king of word processing software, it’s a little weaker when it comes to the bells and whistles. For example, it doesn’t have a clipart library to pull from. The major downside to Google Docs is that you must be connected to the internet to use the software.

For those who never leave the office this may not be a problem, but for those with laptops who like to get work done on planes and in taxicabs, this may be a deal breaker. You also have to have a Google ID to download this software, so if you don’t want to go to the trouble, you may want to choose another brand of shareware. OpenOffice Writer OpenOffice Writer is a shareware word processing software option that is jam-packed with features that rival Microsoft Word. Its control panel layout and buttons make it almost indistinguishable from Microsoft Works, so it is easy to figure out if you are used to Word.

The major advantage of choosing this free word processing software over some of the paid-for versions is OpenOffice allows you to insert a wide array of media into documents, such as sound, videos, notes, bookmarks, drawings and clipart. No other software has this many insertion options. AbiWord AbiWord is one of the lesser known free text document software downloads.
